I just watched my boyfriend take our survey, and we found a few things that confused us. I am not sure if these need/can be changed, but I just wanted to make everyone aware. Hopefully other people will add their thoughts here too. Anyway, we thought that it would be helpful to say how much parking permits currently cost when asking how raising the price would impact the survey taker. Also, my boyfriend said that there already is an electronic ride board. Are we trying to find out if people are aware of it? Or, are we asking if we want another kind of electronic system?
Hope that helps!

Hi Laura,
ReplyDeleteI emailed Dan and Teresa to let them know about your note. And I've emailed the person in charge of parking/transportation to see if she can tell me anything about an electronic rideboard--I'm not aware of one. If you have the URL and could send me the link, that would help.
Hope you're having *some* fun during break--Vermont has been rainy & foggy the past couple of days, but that's supposed to change tomorrow.
See everyone on Monday!

Additional update: I've found the website for the rideboard. It looks like it was initially a student-developed project done for UWEC Office of Housing/Residence Life--and it doesn't appear to have been maintained since late 2003. I've sent questions out to people who should know what the story is.
ReplyDeleteThanks again for drawing this to our attention.

Update 2: That rideboard is not actively maintained, and it's not clear that anyone has been using it. It doesn't have much of a presence on our campus website. I just learned that another group on campus (staff) is working on an updated site--so I've contacted them with a detailed message about the survey and the importance of the information for future transportation plans on campus. I think we've got a bit of material here for another "recommendation" going forward . . . . .
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure if this is the link you are checking out, but I just thought I would mention I used this site very frequently my freshman year of college (2007) and I know several people who still use the board. When I signed in today, there were tons of responses. Just thought I would mention it - it is a great resource that I was/am glad to have! : )

Yes, this is the link I meant, Liv. Thanks for letting us know that it's being used.
ReplyDeleteI assume that the rideboard that's in the works will improve on the current one--and if it doesn't, I'll bet that the developers will hear about it! : )
See you all tomorrow morning at the classroom!
